Biblical References
Enabler
Jesus empowers his followers to engage with others on his behalf (Matt. 10.1; cf. Mk. 6.7).
Intermediary
Jesus shows his followers how to enter into dialogue with people who have a different culture and faith (Jn. 4.27) and intercedes with God on behalf of his disciples (Jn. 17.6-19).
Educator
Jesus equips his followers to carry on his work by providing teaching and training to instil the knowledge and capabilities they will need, such as how to pray (Matt. 6.7-13), the importance of humility (Matt. 18.1-5), and the cost of discipleship (Matt. 10.38).
Partner
Jesus continually seeks to make his disciples into partners in his mission and ministry by building their confidence (e.g. Lk. 12.32-34) and promising ongoing support (Jn. 16.4b-15). He also recognises that not everyone has to be a fully fledged follower to further his cause - "Whoever is not against us is for us" (Mk. 9.40).
Prophecy
Jesus challenged the authorities of his day by calling out their hypocrisy and bad behaviour (Matt. 12.1-8, 22-37; 15.1-20; 23.13-36). He does not shy away from difficult or tough conversations to proclaim his mission to help the marginalised and oppressed (Lk. 4.18).
