About
The
Project
The Kingdom at Work Project is jointly sponsored by St. Peter’s Saltley Trust, Birmingham and Christians in Secular Ministry (CHRISM).
The Project was launched in 2014 following the publication of Deacon Dr. David Clark’s book entitled The Kingdom at Work Project – a communal approach to mission in the workplace. This remains the key resource for the Project, setting out a comprehensive model for the transformation of the world of work. This model is founded on a radical theology of community and related spirituality which is encapsulated in the 5Ls of life, liberation, love, learning and leadership. The pursuit of these five hallmarks of Christian community can empower an innovative process of discernment and action. Although the approach is inspired by Christian teaching, the change it encourages and enables potentially has a wider appeal.
Since 2014, the Project and St. Peter’s Saltley Trust, Birmingham, have published a series of online bulletins related to issues of faith at work and have set up a number of consultations for Christian agencies operating in this field.
The online handbook began development in 2021 to provide a clear and practical resource for those at work. Its purpose is to enable them to think about their working environment and how they might be able to improve the quality of working life for themselves and everyone involved based on the 5Ls. Because work is so important to the survival and flourishing of humanity, it is hoped that the impact of transforming work so that it becomes a more communal activity will have far-reaching effects on the quality of life, both in wider society and the World at large.
